David Swann is a singer and songwriter from Malton in North Yorkshire. He writes songs about the people, places and history of his native county as well as songs about love lost and found. David performs regularly at The Black Swan Folk Club in York, at Cottingham Live! and at The Burn as well as at Singer’s Nights in other folk clubs. David accompanies himself on acoustic guitar and always likes to get his audiences involved by getting them to sing the catchy choruses he writes or by getting them to do some very silly things!! David is a member of the York Songwriter’s Circle which aims to encourage and promote songwriting in the area through workshops and concerts. In 2006 David’s song “Silver and Gold” was voted the best new song about Yorkshire in the ‘Song for Yorkshire’ Competition organised by BBC Radio York. David has played gigs in and around York and his songs have been played on BBC Radio York and BBC Radio Gloucestershire. David has also made appearances at Bromyard Folk Festival and Saddleworth Folk Festival as well as Ryedale Folk Weekend, Ryedale Live and York Folk Weekend. Quotes; " I really do enjoy listening to David's songs. They are my ipod feast when I take my dog on long walks. The songs are full of interesting characters and stories, well researched too. I think my favourite thing about David's work though, is his own dedication and love of these characters and their stories. It is refreshing to hear a songwriter these days writing so beautifully about what he knows. As the man himself suggested on his last CD, dreams may indeed not be for dreamers but this man's lovely songs are for everyone." Anthony John Clarke. “David has a refreshing approach to songwriting, he is wise enough to use his best where it works best, his voice is warm and evocative, his guitar style is upbeat and rhythmic and he allows his strong and intuitive sense of melody to dictate where the songs should take the listener.” Mike Silver
